Can I study a UK MBA without IELTS or TOEFL?
Some routes accept English evidence other than IELTS or TOEFL. Studying in English still requires suitable English ability, and the exact alternative must be accepted for your course and intake.
Separate the test from the language requirement
An IELTS or TOEFL score is one form of evidence. A course may specify another qualification or accept an equivalent. That does not mean every applicant is exempt from demonstrating English ability. Ask about both the evidence accepted and the language used for reading, teaching, assessment and the dissertation.
Read the condition for the exact pathway
The reviewed CIIHE MBA Top Up page lists a C pass in G.C.E. O/L English or equivalent. This is an example of a published alternative to an IELTS-specific condition. The word equivalent requires confirmation from the responsible admissions team. The page does not approve a particular applicant or establish a general exemption for all UK MBAs.
Ask who approves the alternative
Explain what English qualifications or previous English-medium study you have. Ask which evidence can be considered, who makes the decision and whether any additional assessment applies. Obtain confirmation for the intended intake. Requirements from a different university, partner or course should not be substituted.
Plan for English study as well as admission
Before committing, review the expected reading and assignment demands. Ask what academic English or study support is included and whether support changes the language of assessment. Chinese-language assistance, if offered, does not by itself make a degree a Chinese-taught course. UKEC can help you frame these questions for the exact programme.
